Saka Tatal: Journal of Islamic Studies is a periodic scholarly publication dedicated to serving as a forum for the exchange of ideas, empirical research findings, and critical theoretical analyses in the field of Islamic studies. The journal’s name draws its philosophical inspiration from the historical narratives and traditions of the Nusantara, specifically the story of Sunan Kalijaga’s construction of the main pillar or saka of the Great Mosque of Demak, which was built from interwoven fragments of wood, or tatal. This philosophy reflects the spirit of academic collaboration and the accumulation of knowledge, in which diverse contributions of thought, ideas, and research findings which initially appear separate interconnect and reinforce one another, ultimately forming a robust and adaptive framework for Islamic scholarship.

As a scholarly journal in the field of Islamic studies, this platform facilitates a dynamic academic dialogue between classical intellectual traditions (turats) and developments in modern socio-religious realities. The scope of research covers various strategic areas, such as Islamic thought and philosophy, Islamic law (fiqh and social maslahat), Qur’anic exegesis and Hadith studies, Islamic education, the history of Islamic civilization, as well as the dynamics of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago and contemporary global issues. Upholding scholarly integrity and strict academic writing standards, Saka Tatal: Journal of Islamic Studies is committed to serving as an integrative platform for academics, researchers, and practitioners to foster religious thought that is moderate, inclusive, responsive to the challenges of the times, and deeply rooted in both local wisdom and universal Islamic scholarship.
